Here’s a fun and simple fine motor art activity for preschoolers using a spray bottle! This activity not only strengthens little hands and fingers but also introduces basic color blending and a touch of surprise art.
Materials Needed:
- White tissue paper
- Washable markers
- Small spray bottle filled with water
- Tray or plastic tablecloth (to protect surfaces)
- Paper towels (for cleanup)
Instructions:
1. Color the Tissue Paper
- Draw the colored art on the inner layer of the tissue paper. I used toilet paper.
- Draw the outline of this art on outer layer of tissue paper.

2. Prepare for Spraying
- Put the tissue paper on a tray or protected surface to contain water spray.
3. Spray with Water
- Give your preschooler the spray bottle and let them spray water over the tissue paper.
- Watch as the water causes the art work to reveal.

Spray gently and evenly — enough to wet the tissue but not soak it completely.

Kids will love the “magic reveal” effect as their colors appear in blended, watercolor-like pattern.
Learning Benefits:
- Fine motor skills: squeezing the spray bottle strengthens hand muscles and coordination.
- Creativity: exploring color mixing and abstract design.
- Sensory: engaging with color, water, and gentle spraying.
Variations:
- Use shaped tissue paper cutouts (hearts, stars, leaves) for seasonal crafts.
- Use the final dried artwork to make greeting cards, bookmarks, or collage pieces.
