Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Your Paper
Start by gathering your red, green, and brown construction paper. Instead of cutting, encourage kids to tear the paper into small pieces—about the size of a thumbnail. This adds a fun texture to the apple and helps with fine motor skill development.
Step 2: Draw or Print an Apple Outline
If your child enjoys freehand drawing, have them draw a simple apple shape on the white cardstock. Alternatively, print out an apple template and trace it onto the paper. I have drawn it by hand.
Step 3: Stick the Torn Paper Pieces
Now, let the fun begin! Glue the torn red paper pieces onto the apple shape. Overlapping the pieces slightly will create a fuller, more textured look.
Step 4: Add the Stem and Leaf
Once the apple is covered in red paper, use torn brown paper for the stem and green paper for the leaf. Glue these in place at the top of the apple. I didn’t have brown paper so I glued green paper to the stem.
Step 5: Let It Dry
Allow the artwork to dry completely before displaying. You can mount it on another piece of cardstock or hang it on the fridge as a festive fall decoration!
